An important message from Bob Klein Founder and Chairman, Americans for Cures
Friend,
On Election Day 12 years ago, 7 million Californians approved what was then a vision —a dream— of the amazing potential of stem cell therapies.
This vision was Proposition 71, California’s $3 billion investment in stem cell research and therapy development. It marked a paradigm shift in medicine to early-intervention therapies, that could one day treat—or even cure—patients suffering from devastating chronic diseases and injuries.
Today, thanks to those 7 million Californian voters, that dream is now a reality, with 31 different FDA-approved human clinical trial efforts, in various stages of progress, supported by Prop 71 funding. Patients are receiving therapies for Type 1 diabetes, age-related macular degeneration, sickle cell disease, breast cancer, spinal cord injury, HIV/AIDS and dozens of additional chronic diseases.
Prop 71 launched a revolution in medicine; and this was only possible because Californians went out, organized and voted. We, Californians, saw an issue we cared about deeply; we spoke to our neighbors, considered the long-term benefits; and, with overwhelming bipartisan support, we voted to invest in the future of medicine.
That’s the power we all hold as members of this democracy. As an engaged citizen, you truly can make a difference, one vote at a time.
On or before Election Day, I urge you to go out and vote — and to keep fighting for issues that matter to you.
Sincerely,
Bob Klein
